Our University Pathway Programme at CES Toronto will take you beyond listening, reading, writing and speaking English.  You will be encouraged to develop independence in a range of academic tasks.  From seminars and workshops to academic texts, note-taking, essays, narratives, and reports, you will learn to apply a range of learning strategies and research skills effectively.

Through an integrated language skills approach, you will read a range of academic essays and research-based reports with a focus on note-taking and pre-writing strategies and improving editing skills.  Critical thinking and academic vocabulary are incorporated into each unit of study.  Students will also learn about academic culture and personal success strategies in post-secondary education.

Will the classes follow a textbook?

Your lessons are developed by your teachers and are designed specifically to meet your needs. Every week a new programme will be shared with you so that you will be aware of that week’s learning goals.

All classes at CES use a coursebook. These are available from reception and form an essential part of your lessons. Please note, each level uses a different book, so you will need to purchase subsequent textbooks as you progress.

How will you decide which class I will be placed into?

You will sit a placement test on your first day at our school. This will assess your grammar, writing and speaking skills and is used by our academic teams to place you in the most appropriate class.

Will I be able to move up or down levels during my stay?

We offer a system of continuous assessment during your study and at the end of each week our academic team will discuss which students should move to a different level in order to maximise their language experience.

If you feel you are in the wrong level, speak to your class teacher or to the Director of Studies.

Hear from our Students
CES Toronto Pathway Program

"CES's pathway program is one of my favorite programs. It helped me improve my writing and speaking skills, so I highly recommend it."

Sandra from Mexico studying at CES Vancouver

“I’ve already recommended this school because I think the classes are really good. It is a small school, and that makes me feel like I'm at home. Also, it’s easy for teachers to identify our weaker skills in English so we can improve them."
