What is the Study and Work programme??

Study and Work programme is a visa programme specifically designed for non-EU students who would like to improve their English level while working part-time to make a living in Ireland.

This type of visa can be attained for 8 months (35 weeks) and can be renewed twice.

The total duration of immigration permission for a new student attending language courses is 2 years (i.e. 3 x 8 months).

A standard Study and Work programme package includes a 25-weeks course, therefore, students can have an additional 10 weeks of holidays that they can use during or after the course.

During the studies, they can work for up to 20 hours per week. During the holiday period, they can work for up to 40 hours per week. (Please note full-time work must fall in June, July, August and September and from December 15 to January 15).

These are ILEP approved courses.

Students from non-E.U countries may travel to Dublin and get their visa on arrival
or in their own country if that is what the legislation is.

Students must take at least 25 weeks course of Standard General English
and CES can offer classes either in the morning or afternoons.

Both, as mentioned above, have ILEP accreditation.

FAQ
When can I start my course?

You can begin your Standard, Intensive and IELTS Prep courses every Monday morning. If you are taking Cambridge, IELTS Express, Business English and Teacher Training courses, these will have specific start dates and times during the year which they run.

What are the Class times?

In Dublin, your classes run Monday to Friday, starting at 09:00 and ending at 13:00. Classes break at 11:00 for 20 minutes until 11.20.

In the UK, your classes run Monday to Friday, starting at 09:30 and ending at 13:00. Classes break at 11:00 for 30 minutes until 11:30.

In Canada, the Standard courses are from 09:00 – 12:15, Monday to Friday.  Intensive lessons are from 09:00 – 14:00, Monday to Thursday and 09:00 – 12:15 on Fridays.

What time does the school building open?

Our school buildings open at 08:30 Monday to Friday and are not open at the weekend.

Will the classes follow a textbook?

Your lessons are developed by your teachers and are designed specifically to meet your needs. Every week a new programme will be shared with you so that you will be aware of that week’s learning goals.

All classes at CES use a coursebook. These are available from reception and form an essential part of your lessons. Please note, each level uses a different book, so you will need to purchase subsequent textbooks as you progress.

How will you decide which class I will be placed into?

You will sit a placement test on your first day at our school. This will assess your grammar, writing and speaking skills and is used by our academic teams to place you in the most appropriate class.

Will I be able to move up or down levels during my stay?

We offer a system of continuous assessment during your study and at the end of each week our academic team will discuss which students should move to a different level in order to maximise their language experience.

If you feel you are in the wrong level, speak to your class teacher or to the Director of Studies.
